Maintaining a pre-determined average speed over tight and twisty tarmac roads is an incredibly difficult thing to achieve, but Alan and Heather Gluyas have proved to be masters of it in recent Targa events.
Driving their 2012 Toyota 86, they trailed for much of the event, but made their move on the final day and took an impressive eight point victory.
Jordan and Debbie Bridge led after the first two days in their 2004 Subaru WRX, but the experience of the Gluyas pairing proved too much on the final day.
“I wasn’t sure we’d make it, because everyone has been getting better with each event, but we’re thrilled to bits to make it two in a row,” Gluyas said.
Gerard Knapps and Roger Campbell had a consistent event in their 2005 Alfa Romeo, holding second after day two, but slipped to third place in the final standings.
Last year’s winners, Gerry Bashford and Bob Watson, had a slow start in their Mazda MX5 but recovered well to take fourth place after a close battle with the 2002 Ford Falcon Ute of Darryl and Peter Marshall.
