Number 27 Targa Tasmania was one of the best – what an event – just the fourth all-dry Targa.

And certainly one of the warmest on record.

The Mitsubishi Evo X of Ed Kreamer and Paul Harvey has stopped on Cygnet. All OK.

The 1975 Fiat 131 Abarth of Nik Prieston and Dylan Braithwaite have had an accident at 9.2km on the 14.94km Cygnet (TS32) stage.

Driver Nik Prieston is okay. Co-driver Dylan Braithwaite will be taken to hospital with back pain for further observation.

Matt Close has spoken about the agony of exiting Targa Tasmania as he attempted to hunt down leader Jason White.

“It was probably about half a kay in and on cold tyres that weren’t really up to operating temperature and combined with that there was a bit of loose gravel and it just went straight on,” Close said.

“And we went into a fence. We were going to go out pretty aggressively and we’ve got ourselves to blame. We thought that it was ours to grab if we wanted it and unfortunately we overstepped the line a bit.

“Unfortunately on cold tyres I just asked a bit too much of them.

“I take the blame. We are proud because we took it up to him (White) and I don’t think he’s had that sort of pressure for a long time. The good thing is Cameron (Reeves) and myself were not hurt.”

The field is running around 40 minutes behind schedule. But we are getting closer to a finish after six long, but exciting days, across Tasmania.

The Michael Pritchard and Gary Mourant Porsche 911 take the Pelverata 10.36km stage as the Whites maintain a two minute plus edge in the outright standings.

Officials have downgraded the 8.88km TS 30 Gardners Bay run to a transport stage following an incident with a tour leader car.
